How it works

Accountant or bookkeeping firm? See Klera for firms

A short film with demo data for Studio Noord. On the desk: a receipt, an invoice in the post, a bank notification, a note about the VAT deadline and a reminder about an unpaid invoice. You click Klera and it all goes into one stack. In the Inbox, Klera reads the receipt from Brasserie Zuiderhaven: supplier, date, €46.50 and 9% VAT. It is a business meal, so the VAT is not deductible. Klera also finds the payment at the bank. In Process, you choose Link and book, and the transaction is booked. Then Klera lists 3 bank transactions still missing their document under Still to upload. You ask Fin for an invoice to Hotel Zeezicht, 12 hours of design at €110. Fin drafts it for Hotel Zeezicht B.V. at €1,597.20, and you send it. You file the VAT return for Q3 2026 with the Belastingdienst. The status goes from Draft to Filed to Received by the Belastingdienst, before the deadline of 31 October. Finally, the four results sit side by side.
  • Klera can never move your money
  • VAT filed directly with the Belastingdienst
  • Your data is stored in the EU
  • Your accountant gets free access

Three questions you ask yourself every week.

In Klera, the answer is already there.
  1. What's left for me to do?

Klera books what is clear. You only get the questions.

Klera books your bank transactions: the number of open tasks goes down from 24 to 1. What is left is one question for you: was the Albert Heijn purchase business or personal?

  2. How much should I set aside?

Your VAT and your income tax, from your own figures.

Set aside: VAT for Q4 2026 so far €642, built from the VAT on 3 invoices sent, and income tax 2026 €10,580, an estimate from your booked figures.

  3. Why was this booked this way?

Every entry with its document and its reason.

Why was this booked this way? KPN's invoice of 05-09-2026 says business mobile and internet, total €48.40. The same amount left your account on 19-09-2026. So it's booked to 4710 Phone and internet, with 21% VAT.

Who is Fin?

Fin is Klera's AI assistant. Ask in plain language for an invoice, an entry or your revenue. Fin prepares it and shows you a preview first. You approve. Fin never files or pays anything.

Does Klera file my VAT return?

Yes. Klera prepares your return from your entries. You check and approve it, then it goes straight to the Dutch tax authority (Belastingdienst). The first time, you confirm once with a code that arrives by post.

What if Klera makes a mistake?

Klera only books what's clear-cut on its own, with the reason attached. When Klera is unsure, it asks you first. Spot something that's off? Correct it, and Klera learns from it. A filed return stays as it is: a correction goes into the next return, or into a supplementary return when that is needed. Klera tells you when.

Can I switch from my current software?

Yes. Bring your books along with the audit file (XAF) from your current package, such as SnelStart, Exact Online or Twinfield. Your accountant imports it, with your chart of accounts and history. No accountant? Enter your opening balance and we'll help you get started.

Where is my data stored?

Stored in the EU, encrypted. The database is in Frankfurt. Your bank is connected read-only, so Klera can never move money. And you can export your books yourself at any time, as an audit file (XAF).

Does Klera work with my accountant?

Yes. Your accountant gets free access to your books, on every plan. You both work in the same books, and your accountant can review your VAT return before you file it. Firms work with all their clients from one workbench.

Can I start halfway through the year?

Yes. Connect your bank. Upload earlier months as a bank export (CSV, MT940 or CAMT.053), and Klera takes the opening balance from your statement. Coming from another package? Bring everything with the audit file (XAF).

Is there an app?

Yes, for iPhone and Android. Snap a photo of your receipt, answer Klera's questions and send an invoice, on the go.

Does Klera do my income tax too?

Klera calculates your income or corporate tax as a draft, with that year's rules, and shows all year what to set aside. With those figures you file the return in Mijn Belastingdienst, or your accountant does it.
