About Klera

About Klera: AI bookkeeping that explains every entry

Klera is AI bookkeeping software that keeps the books for freelancers (zzp'ers), partnerships (vof), small companies (bv) and accounting firms in the Netherlands. Klera books your bank transactions, explains every entry, shows how sure it is and prepares your VAT return. When Klera is unsure, it doesn't guess. It asks you. Want to know something or get something done? Ask Fin, Klera's AI assistant, in plain language. You review and decide; after your approval Klera files the VAT return directly with the Belastingdienst (the Dutch tax authority). Klera is made by Klera B.V. in Amsterdam; product development started in March 2026. Klera books. You decide.

What Klera does

Klera takes on the recurring bookkeeping work: bringing in transactions, booking them, matching payments and filing your VAT return. The decisions stay with you.

Your bank, connected automatically

Connect ING, ABN AMRO, Rabobank, bunq or another bank via PSD2: read-only, and your transactions come in by themselves. You pick your bank from the list of our PSD2 provider, Enable Banking. Bank not listed? Import an MT940, CAMT.053 or CSV file, without retyping. Klera can never move money.

Klera books, explains why and shows how sure it is

For every transaction Klera picks a category, notes how sure it is and explains in plain language why it booked it that way. When it isn't sure, it asks you one question instead of guessing. Correct an entry three times and Klera remembers it from then on.

Reconciliation: payments matched to invoices

Klera matches payments to the invoices they belong to. You see at a glance what is still open and what has been paid.

A VAT return, filed directly

Klera prepares your VAT return from your entries: every box calculated, including reverse charge. You review and approve, then Klera files the return directly with the Belastingdienst. Nothing goes out without your approval. Before your first return, you confirm once with a code we send by post to your business address. On the small business scheme (KOR) you don't file VAT returns. Klera then invoices without VAT and warns you when your turnover nears the limit.

Invoices, quotes and payment reminders

You create invoices and quotes in your own branding. When an invoice is unpaid, Klera proposes a payment reminder, and it only goes out once you approve it. From Plus you can export invoices as UBL files; sending through the Peppol network is not available (yet).

Receipts and purchase invoices

Upload a receipt or invoice and Klera reads it (OCR). Or forward receipts to your business's own Klera email address: Klera reads them and suggests an entry. Less hunting for receipts at the end of the quarter.

Reports

Profit and loss, balance sheet, cash flow and annual accounts, plus fixed costs from Plus, based on your booked transactions. You see where you stand without waiting for the year-end close.

Your accountant joins free

Invite your accountant into your books at no extra cost, on every plan. You both work in the same books, and your accountant can review your VAT return before you file.

A workbench for accounting firms

Firms manage all their clients' books from one workbench. Klera does the groundwork per client; the firm reviews and approves. For clients with few transactions there is Kantoor Compact: €4 per month, only through a firm.

Switching with your audit file (XAF)

Export the audit file (XAF) from your current package, such as SnelStart, Exact Online or Twinfield. Your accountant or bookkeeping firm imports it into Klera, with chart of accounts, opening balance and history. You bring your books along instead of starting over. And you can always export your books yourself as an audit file.

What makes Klera different

The Netherlands has plenty of good bookkeeping packages, such as Moneybird, Exact Online, SnelStart, e-Boekhouden, Jortt, Tellow, MoneyMonk and Rompslomp. Here is where Klera is deliberately different. Other packages' prices as published on 5 October 2026, per month, excl. VAT.

An explanation on every entry

Every entry by Klera has a category, a confidence level (high, review or uncertain) and a plain-language explanation, for example: same supplier and same amount as last month, so phone costs. None of the packages above writes such an explanation with a confidence level on every entry. Reviewing becomes reading, not investigating.

Klera asks when unsure and learns after 3 corrections

Klera books on its own what it is sure of. When it is unsure, for instance about a restaurant bill that could be business or personal, it asks you one short question instead of guessing. Correct an entry three times and Klera remembers it from then on.

Guidelines, not hard cut-offs

Klera plans come with a guideline for the number of transactions: Start ±50, Plus ±200 and Compleet ±1,000 per month. If you go over, your books simply keep working. Moneybird processes at most 5, 20 or 50 bank transactions a month, depending on your plan, and e-Boekhouden's starter plan allows up to 240 entries per year.

From €15 per month, with the AI assistant in every plan

Klera Start costs €15 per month, or €150 per year (2 months free). For comparison: Moneybird Start (20 bank transactions) costs €18 per month, or €15 per month when paid yearly; for about 50 bank transactions it is Groei at €35 per month. Jortt ZZP costs €21.95 per month, or €19.95 per month on a yearly subscription, and Exact Online starts at €49 per month.

Free for your accountant, €4 per firm client

On every plan you can invite your accountant into your books at no extra cost. Accounting firms work with all their clients from one workbench, and for clients with few transactions there is Kantoor Compact at €4 per month. Klera fits into the working relationship you already have.

What Klera doesn't do

We'd rather tell you up front what isn't possible than have you find out after a month.

You can export invoices as UBL files, but Klera does not send them through the Peppol network itself.

Klera does not hold an ISO certification. To learn how we handle your data, read our privacy policy or email support@klera.nl.

The team behind Klera

Klera is built by Klera B.V. in Amsterdam. Product development started in March 2026.

Why we built Klera

“We built Klera because we were losing our evenings to bookkeeping. Today our own companies run on Klera every day. That's the bar for everything we ship to you.” The Klera team

How we build

Klera books, you decide. Every entry comes with an explanation, doubt becomes a question instead of a guess, and the final click with the Belastingdienst stays yours. And when Klera can't do something yet, we say so.

Does Klera support e-invoicing via Peppol?

Partly. From Plus you can export invoices as UBL files. Klera cannot send them through the Peppol network itself yet.
